Assam CM welcomes extension of BSF’s functional jurisdiction


ASSAM: The chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday welcomed the extension of the Border Security Force’s (BSF) operational jurisdiction in coordination with the state cops and stated that the relocation will act as a “deterrent” for prohibited infiltration.
“Assam invites the extension of BSF’s functional jurisdiction. In coordination with state police, this relocation will act as a strong deterrent for beating cross border smuggling & & illegal seepage. It strengths national security and nationwide interest,” said the primary minister.
Especially, in a relocation focused on maintaining “absolutely no tolerance” against terrorism and cross border criminal offenses, the Centre on Wednesday empowered the Border Security Force to perform searches, arrest suspects and make seizures approximately a location of 50 km inside Indian area from International Border (IB) along India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders.
