Lakhimpur Kheri LIVE: BEST buses vandalised amidst Maharashtra Bandh; Sena employees obstruct Eastern Highway
Bus services were impacted in Mumbai and neighbouring locations on Monday and many of the shops and industrial facilities remained closed in the wake of the bandh called across Maharashtra by 3 partners in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government to protest the killing of 4 farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri district. A number of trade organisations in Pune have revealed assistance for Monday’s Maharashtra bandh. Meanwhile, demanding the Minister of State for House Ajay Mishra be sacked and apprehended in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence case, the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) has alerted the Centre and the Uttar Pradesh government of phase-wise demonstrations, if the demands are not satisfied by today (October 11). Ashish Mishra, who was apprehended late on Saturday, was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days and positioned under COVID quarantine in the district prison in Lakhimpur Kheri. The violence in Lakhimpur had resulted in the death of eight people, who the farmers said were presumably torn down by a vehicle carrying BJP employees.
