Politics is more than simply a pursuit of power as it is a complex activity including building societies and the nation with focus on development, Union minister Nitin Gadkari stated on Thursday and kept in mind leaders who change parties to end up being CMs or ministers are not kept in mind by people for long. He deprecated the pattern of setting up big hoardings on the birthday of political leaders and likewise releasing advertisements in newspapers to celebrate the event and said this will not make anybody a real leader.

The BJP leader was speaking virtually on the subject, ‘Politics is an instrument of social-economic reforms’, at the 11th Bharatiya Chhatra Sansad (Students’ Parliament) organised by the city-based MIT World Peace University.

“Politics is considered as satta karan (power politics) but this is not the real meaning of politics. Power politics is among the activities of politics. The real meaning of politics is rastra karan (politics of nation building), samaj karan (social politics), vikas karan (advancement politics), dharma karan (spiritual pursuit), arth karan (economic success) and offering significance to ‘lokniti’ (public policy) over power politics,” stated Gadkari.

Unfortunately power politics is thought about as real politics, he rued. “There is a need to alter that meaning and it is possible with the assistance of you (trainees who wish to sign up with politics) and whose goal is not to fulfil their own ambitions however to serve marginalised individuals, work towards eradicating hardship, unemployment, cravings and making India an incredibly financial power,” stated Gadkari.

The Union minister stated challenges can be conquered with collective efforts. “I know there are challenges. We can not stitch the sky. Nevertheless, sea is formed by every drop of water and if the drop decides not to go to the sea, it (sea) will not be formed. So every drop is a stakeholder,” he added.

The 64-year-old parliamentarian recommended students not to pursue publicity in politics. “I see big hoardings on the birthday (of politicians) in every city. What is the need to put up such big hoardings? What have they done? By installing such huge hoardings, giving advertisements in papers, one can not become a leader (in politics ),” Gadkari stated.

He stated politicians who change sides for power and posts are not remembered by individuals for long. “Today icons like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Sant Tukaram, Sant Dnyaneshwar Maharaj, Shahu Maharaj, Veer Savarkar, Bal Gangadhar Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi are remembered, however those (leaders) who go from one celebration to another and ended up being primary ministers and ministers … such individuals are not kept in mind for long,” Gadkari stated.

He said working for well-being of all areas of the society irrespective of religious beliefs, caste, creed, gender and language is the real “spirit of politics”. Pricing estimate RSS ideologue late Dattopant Thengadi, Gadkari said every politician considers five years, but every socio-economic reformer believes of centuries. He asked trainees to choose whether they want to lead individuals or be led by them.

“Work for people, work towards providing jobs, work for promoting farming, innovations,” the BJP leader stated.
